Der Jazz lebt von charaktervollen Melodien und ihren mannigfachen Variationen. Doch was tun, wenn man Inspiration jenseits der Jazz-Standards aus der Feder von Gershwin oder Cole Porter sucht? Für Remzi Emek lag die Antwort nahe: Er sichtete den jahrhundertealten Melodienschatz Anatoliens und suchte Weisen, deren melodische Schönheit und rhythmische Komplexität dem Jazz neue Impulse geben können. Dahinter steckte der Gedanke, den Jazz um die lebendige Volksliedtradition eines riesigen, vom Bosporus bis zum Kaukasus reichenden Gebiets zu bereichern.
Zur Verwirklichung dieses kulturellen Austauschs stellte er eine Band aus deutschen und türkischen Musikern mit europäischem und traditionell türkischen Instrumentarium zusammen - das Anatolian Jazz Orchestra. Seit 2005 erlebt das zehnköpfige Ensemble, wie spannend und bereichernd die Begegnung zweier Musikkulturen sein kann!

He rummaged through the centuries old treasure chest of Anatolian melodies and looked for those whose melodic beauty and rhythmic complexity could provide new impetus for jazz. The idea of this was to enrich jazz with the lively tradition of folksongs from the vast area of land that ranges from the Bosphorus to the Caucasus mountains.
To bring this cultural exchange into being, he assembled a group of German and Turkish musicians with European and traditional Turkish instruments and called it the Anatolian Jazz Orchestra.
